A/N: At least, I hope the move that I'm thinking of is the blitzkrieg.

Tom sat on his bed, Yaxley across from him.

“Queen to f7. I win again. That’s blitzkrieg.”

Tom stared at the board intently, memorizing each piece’s position. When he did that, Yaxley became uncomfortable. It was creepy.

“I hate it when you do that, Yaxley. The game’s over too fast.”

“The objective’s to win. I like doing it quick as possible.”

“It’s more fun when you pick your oponent’s pieces off one by one.”

There was that stare again. The older boy shifted awkwardly. “Well... play again?”

After Tom learned to block the move, games with him lasted for hours.

Characters: Hermione

The battlefield is a painting in monochrome and crimson. The dashes of red here and there are splattered without any sort of pattern or reason.

Here, soaking a white mask. There, clumping the salt-and-pepper hair of an unrecognizable comrade. Here, drenching darker the black of a cloak. You can’t even see the red if you don’t notice how it soaked the white skin beneath the fabric.

Hermione thinks of it like a work of Pollock: all chaos and anarchy without sense or logic.

She has to: if she sees it for what it really is she will probably start weeping.
