Harry couldn't look into Ron's eyes when the news came.
"Ginny's gone missing." Percy said. His voice flat, lifeless. He wasn't up to all the levels of sorrow he felt, for the past and now for the news he had to bring.
We had all seen Mrs. Weasley cry, but this was different. She let out a howl like a wounded animal. Ron just stared at the wall, tears silently streaming down his face.
Something broke in all of us that day. We became soldiers after that. It was the first time we truly understood that it was a war.

Lupin had become a spy, an assassin when need be, a trainer and counselor to Harry. The day he was supposed to meet us at Hogsmead a black winged creature, some kind of perversion of an owl sat on the windowsill of the Pub.
Ron killed the thing quickly, because we had seen their poison talons before. A note fell to the earth.
"He suffered, just like the pretty little red headed girl. I will kill everything you hold dear. I will amputate every connection you have made until you are alone like me and then I will kill you."

I knew my love was next. I think we all did. Every night I held him so hard that I left marks on his back and tear stains on his shirt.
When Ron went missing we didn't even say it out loud. We didn't discuss it. We didn't cry.
The joke shop was closed and in the morning Fred, George, Charlie and Bill were all there. Unshaven, silent and all of their knuckles white from gripping their wands.
Harry led them out. I followed. We were going to die or end this thing forever.
