When Rowena first showed them the plan for the staircases and corridors, Salazar was the first to voice objections.
“How in Merlin’s name do you expect us to accept this?” he roared. “Trick stairs, doors that pretend to be solid walls, rotating staircases…it’s preposterous!”
“I think it’s brilliant,” she said coldly. “Think of it as…a test of wits and knowledge for the students, if you like. Don’t you find it stale, walking up the same set of stairs, down the same bland corridors? I promise you, if we implement this floor plan, our students will never find this castle boring.”

“Ravenclaw thinks she’s so clever,” Salazar mumbled to himself, as chips of stone flew past his face. “Our students will never find this place boring…balderdash! As though she thinks learning magic could ever be boring! Merlin’s beard!”
He stood back and surveyed his handiwork. A half-finished colossal statue of himself leered back at him. He grinned and cast his glance downward to the newly-hatched basilisk twining itself around his ankles, carefully avoiding its eyes.
“Of course, she only thinks that because she’s a Mudblood,” he hissed in Parseltongue. “Let’s see how exciting she finds Hogwarts once I finish this place…”
