Sirius had been born fighting. A life spent with a family you despised didn’t sit easy on the soul. He’d fought at school, sporadic, bitter fights to lift a foul mood and clear his head. He’d fought as he grew up, sullen outbursts leading to the final showdown when he’d disappeared for three days and eventually turned up at the Potter’s.
And he was fighting now, the thrill of it rushing through his veins until that

Sirius had felt alive once more and he had died fighting.

Remus feels it every month, that stretch and pull that rips the very life out of him and tears it into something… different. Born again as a wild beast and lost in its bitter fury. And each night it happens his waking moments take him back to the first night. The nine year old boy, his body slashed and beaten, his throat half torn as he tries to breathe through the gurgle of blood (his father’s choked sobs at the end of the bed).
Every month since he’s torn himself a new skin and it feels like death each time.
