A/N: I know it's not canon, well, as far as we know. But this is as good an explanation as anything.

Carefully, she pulled on her evening gloves before picking the cane up. The spell wasn't active yet but one couldn't be too careful.

When he came down the stairs and smiled at her, the one he reserved solely for her, her heart leapt. She almost lost her resolve but she caught sight of his tattoo. She had to do this. She just had to.

With a winning smile, she asked him, "Are you ready to go?"

He nodded and reached for his cane.

No one was more surprised than Lucius at finding himself in the Ministry of Magic, Auror Department.

He knew better than to touch anything that came in his letterbox that he was not expecting. Really, though, it did make kind of a mess in his flat, with mail, junk mostly, scattered all over. Occasionally, he would drag out a broom and sweep it all up into a neat pile which, of course, would find it's way back within seconds of the door opening.

Today he forgot.

As he landed on the railroad tracks, Alastor took the last second to appreciate the sheer mathematical precision it took to portkey him right in front of the 12 o'clock express.
