Neville knew the book well. His nanny had read him passages each night. It was a favorite of Muggle children too, and he could understand why. The magic in it was so wonderful.
Neville often thought of Alice before he would go to visit his parents. Their catatonic ways used to scare him. Now, if he recited the poems of the Mad Hatter or the songs of the walrus he relaxed.
Neville hoped that behind the vacant stare of his mother, Wonderland resided. Perhaps behind his mother’s looking glass eyes, another Alice waited for a son she had left behind.
