He stands inside Dumbledore's office, fist clenched as he rolls up the sleeve of his professor's robe, the Mark still visible but fading.
“You do realize the consequence of revealing this to me, Severus?”
The portraits of the previous Masters glare down at him, mutter among themselves. It doesn't matter. All he can see is the shock of her red hair crumpled to the ground.
“I do.”
Dumbledore stares into his eyes. The unspoken conversation concludes.
“Very well then,” Dumbledore says, weary. “Let us proceed.”
Snape nods but refuses to sit. He wishes he could blame this on James too.
