Severus's face was taut and grim.
"I would not ask it of you unless it was absolutely necessary, Severus," said Albus calmly, eyes meeting his friend's over the top of half-moon spectacles.
"What you ask is..."
"An unreasonably burden. I understand. No man should ever be required to kill another. But his is war, Severus: these are exceptional circumstances and, however much you or I regret it, this death may be important - may mean the saving of lives."
And Severus, angry but as always acquiescent, bowed to Albus's wishes.
And killed him.
