Well, they were the inseparables, according to POA. And since James refused to believe (quite rightly as it turned out) that Sirius was the traitor and wanted him as secret keeper despite Dumbledore's suspicions, I think he stayed very loved.
There were so many suggestions in the original post about what should be made of the word 'swing' (and I see I've forgotten to put up what challenge I was completing - oops) that it was difficult to think of where precisely to take it. There's something satisfying about finishing with the word, though.
