“Higher! Faster!”
It was one of the rare occasions he didn’t have to work…November 1st. The day the entire world got the happy news. One rare, lucky day when he was home before dinner, and after her homeschooling.
As he pushed Ginny on the swing, her signature Weasley hair flashing in the autumn sunlight, Arthur remembered the Potters. He thought about his own children, what he would sacrifice for them…and what they might be called upon to sacrifice one day, if Dumbledore’s really thought …
He shuddered, wishing irrationally that Ginny didn’t enjoy swinging quite so high or so fast.

“YES! Now stop it!”
“Ohhhh nooooo…here we goooo!”
“RON WEASLEY, I AM TELLING YOUR MOTHER!”
“Sheesh, alright.”
“Honestly! You have no sense of romance!”
“Oh, really?”
“In future, when a girl asks to be pushed on the swing, she’s generally not asking for a near-death experience!”
“So you didn’t find that romantic?”
“NO!”
“Then why is your heart beating so fast?”
“…Ron…really…”
“Come on, give us a snog...”

“Hello?”
There was no answer - only the steady swing of the bare bulb above them let them know someone had, indeed, fled the room moments before…its seedy, peeling wallpaper advanced and receded from the darkness…Ron reached up and stopped it.
“Behind me,” Harry whispered.
“With you,” Hermione protested, stepping forward.
Harry scowled. No time to argue.
“We know you’re here,” Harry called out, stridently, “Show yourself!”
Ron pointed silently to the dusty floor, newly disturbed in front of the bookcase.
“On three,” Harry mouthed, “One…Two...”
“Alohomora!” Hermione cried.
The bookcase swung open, revealing a terrified Pettigrew, biting his ratty fingernails.
