“We aren’t supposed to take sides, Nicholas,” the Grey Lady scolded gently, “You know that.”

Nicholas glanced at the other ghosts, demanding, “We are to do nothing then? That woman is the worst thing to ever happen to Hogwarts.”

Myrtle clasped her hands and muttered darkly, “She is hardly the worse thing to happen here.”

Looking paler than normal, the Fat Friar crossed himself. “I don’t want to be exorcised, thank you very much.”

“We do nothing.” The Bloody Baron finally deigned to speak, shocking them all into silence, “We are bound.”

Nicholas nodded his head reluctantly, “As you say.”

Title: Thirty-seven
House: Gryffindor
Rating: G
Characters: The Bloody Baron
Challenge: The Hogwarts Ghosts
Word Count: 100
Notes: Imaginary, of course. And, it didn’t turn out as well as I would have liked.

He’d counted each one, each bite of the sword, each time flesh tore and gave way. Thirteen wounds, each a grisly reminder of his betrayal.

The French were invading, all because of his ambition.

Driving forward, the Baron headed for the French leader, the man he’d conspired with, ignoring his wounded body.

Stories are not told of the epic battle. A heavy fog rolled in, obscuring the fight from view, insuring no Muggle witnesses.

Afterward, thirty-seven stab wounds and a sword buried in the French Commander’s chest told the tale; how a traitor became a hero, dying defending his country.
