I just want to say that this story breaks my heart every time I read it.

And, I owe you photos of Berkeley.

Thanks. Right now I'm looking for a description of (and pictures of) a restaurant Harry could take Severus to to meet Chris and Russ in person.

Hey, listen. I'm more than happy to photograph several options - please email me at i_am_stasia at yahoo dot com to give me some idea of what you're looking for.

Coffee shop? Fancy restaurant? Italian place? Thai food? Diner? There are few restaurants that are "known" Berkeley hangouts...

You need info about Berkeley? As in California? www.bestofberkeley.com, I think it is. I went to school there; feel free to contact me for info. :)

Suggestion: Chez Panisse. Alice Waters' restaurant, fancy California cuisine. Think $75/person minimum. very fancy, needs a reservation kind of place.

No, I don't need info about Berkeley. I live in Oakland, just next door, and grew up out here. I wanted information about what type of restaurant Tayefeth wanted Harry to be taking Severus out to.

I can photograph Chez Panisse, no problem. But I'm not sure she wants Chez Panisse.

*ponders* Right now, I'd love to go to Chez Panisse. I haven't been in ages.

Chez Panisse is a bit too fancy, I think. This isn't a fancy celebration kind of dinner. More of a let's let Sev meet Chris and Russ (and Chris's partner) on semi-neutral ground.

Not too fancy, and not too overwhelming, if possible. A known Berkeley hangout would be good. While Russ is elegant, Chris is very much down to earth, and I think she's the one making the arrangements. So not the kind of place where the waiters would flirt with Harry or Sev, but also not the sort of place where Sev would be confronted with an unintelligible menu or miniscule portions...

(Coming in to this very, very late)

Giovanni's is an Italian restaurant on Shattuck in downtown Berkeley; they have good food, both Italian & American (i.e. steak, catfish, etc.), great pizza (which they don't advertise; they're not a pizza joint)--and it's quiet. And mostly dark. There's a round fireplace in the center of the main room, and a couple of other sections.

It's my favorite place in Berkeley; it has a much more private feel than many restaurants, and it's pretty much ignored by the student crowd. It's not formal or pricey (steak dinner is about $20), and it's nicely elegant. And being Berkeley, people can wear either t-shirts & jeans, or renfaire costumes, or formal robes (if wizards showed up in robes, people would think they were actors or weird hippies)--any odd behaviors would be pretty much ignored.
