Most students are proud when they receive their prefect’s badge. But Remus has never been most students.
It’s not that he doesn’t appreciate it; he very much does. But Remus is not an authority figure.
James, Sirius, and Peter are the only real friends Remus has ever had. How can he jeopardize that by punishing their antics? It’s a prefect’s duty to stop students from wreaking havoc, and havoc is certainly what the Marauders are known for.
Remus would just have to find some way to balance things out. It’s possible to be a Marauder and a prefect...isn’t it?
