Title: Proposals Don't Get Easier
House: Hufflepuff
Word Count: 100
Challenge: Me, Myself and I
Rating: G
Characters: James, Lily

I clear my throat nervously and approach my lady fair. "Lily," I say.

"Potter." She replies.

You'd think that after all my practice in getting shot down, this would get easier. Somehow it doesn't. I should give up, but I can't bring myself to do that.

"Lily, will you marry me?"

She gives me this cool, green-eyed stare. "I'm sorry, James, but no."

At least she's apologetic about it.

"Will you tell me why not?"

"I don't think you're serious."

With great effort, I refrain from punning on Padfoot's given name.

"What will convince you?"

"I'm sorry, I don't know."
