Title: Love in the Stockroom
Words: 100
Challenge: Valentine
Characters: Remus, OC (These are all Remus/Sirius)
Author Notes: I apologize for the massive drabble gaggle. And about the job - I know Remus is working for the Order, but hey, werewolf’s gotta eat.

Remus Lupin opened the stockroom door, sighing miserably.

“Reeeeeemus!” squealed Sherry, the incompetent close-talker from Romance and Bargain. She thrust half a clothing box full of sickly-looking frosted cupcakes at him, “This one’s just for you!”

“Remis,” in pink icing. The dismal stockroom was feebly decorated with cardboard hearts and cupids, yet it still retained its “East Berlin” charm. He hated this stupid Muggle job, hated this stupid Muggle holiday…

“Thank you, Sherry,” he responded, robotically denying the tears. Her thick brows knitted into a scowl reminiscent of Victor Krum, but Remus didn’t care.

He’d never see his Valentine again.

Characters: Remus, OC (I’ve named him Dwayne. : -) )

The teenager banged it on the counter like a challenge, keeping eye contact, and biting his lower lip.

“The Kama Sutra for Gay Men,” the cover blared, garishly photographed with oiled swimsuit models.

Remus winced at the gelled, spiked, slim-wristed creature before him. He was barely older than Harry, and seemed to have a spool of thread shoved through his earlobe. He eyed Remus with a carefully practiced, “mature” pout.

“So, when do you get off?”

“Rarely,” Remus said, wryly, “Now, go home, wash your hair, do your homework, and take that ridiculous thing out of your ear. Seventeen quid.”

Words: 100
House: Hufflepuff

Characters: Remus

“With a great bloody thing in his ear, like some native! No, I am too old for this nonsense! I intend to wither in solitude, like a respectable bereaved personage.”

The veil fluttered, but there was no difference in the breathless murmuring.

“I know. ‘Poor Moony,’ when you’re the one that’s dead. Well, poor me indeed, when you scarper off and leave me behind. Not on, Pads.”

His voice cracked.

“Well. Miss you.”

He thought about crossing over to the archway, touching its cold stones…but he knew if he took one step closer, he wouldn’t be able to step away again.

He might as well have slept through the Order meeting. He heard the words, but couldn’t listen. Everything was twice as hard with Harry back at school.

“I take it you visited him?” Dumbledore asked later, as though he’d met Sirius for lunch.

“Yes,” he muttered, teeth gritted.

“Remus,” Dumbledore said, eyes sad and soft, “It was meant to be. There is a plan for - ”

“Let me speak a word in your ear,” Remus whispered, leaning in close, “I’ve stopped caring about your ‘Master Plan.’ Life is not chess, Albus. And Sirius was no one’s pawn.”

He left abruptly.

“I yelled at Albus today,” he confessed later.

“Dumbledore?” Harry asked incredulously, from the mirror fragment, “Why?”

“He was just saying things about Sirius,” Remus sighed, “Trying to make me feel better. I shouldn’t have yelled. He’s a good man.”

Harry simply nodded. Remus knew Harry would understand “mad at Albus Dumbledore for no good reason.”

“Do you think Sirius would mind us using these?” Harry asked, guiltily.

Remus smiled.

“He’d be thrilled. ‘Marauders ride again,’ and all that.”

Change the subject.

“So how was your Valentine’s Day?”

“Sucked.”

Remus laughed.

I love you so much, Harry.

“Mine too.”

“Wotcher, Remus. Can’t sleep?”

Remus shook his head no. “You’re home late, miss. Must’ve been fending them off with a stick.”

Tonks laughed, drawing up a chair.

“Hah. Just drinks with Charlie and the twins. He brought a date.”

Remus winced sympathetically.

“How ‘bout you?” Tonks asked, lightly, “You alright?”

“No,” Remus smiled softly, hunched over his mug.

There was a long pause.

“I don’t usually…err…” Tonks said, gently, “but…if you’d like to see him?…”

Tears flooded Remus’s eyes.

“Shit, I’m sorry,” Tonks said, knocking her chair over in her haste to hug him, “That was really stupid of me…”

“Mind if I get ready for bed?”

“Pssh.” Tonks waved that it was alright, still examining the photographs.

“This one’s hot,” Tonks grinned cheekily, waving a photo of the four of them shirtless by the lake, Peter looking awkward and out-of-place with his undershirt still on. She eyed the scars on his back as he changed shirts. “That one on your shoulder’s not in the picture.”

“Very good,” Remus grinned, tugging his T-shirt over his head, “Full marks for Observation.”

“You got it recently?”

“No,” Remus said, “That was Pads. Sixth year. This one was James.”

“Those?”

“Err, me.”

“Oh…”

Title: Freaks
Words: 100

“I’m lost,” Tonks confessed, sounding much younger and more female than usual.

“How d’you mean?”

She rolled onto her side, so they could make eye contact.

“Being a Metamorphmagus - you’re so excited that you can be anybody…but then you don’t know who you’re supposed to be…so you invent this person, arbitrarily…but then, is it still really you?”

“That’s not just you, Tonks, that’s everyone,” Remus said, arms tucked behind his head, “Look at me - do you think I’m the same person I was in school?”

“No one wants me,” Tonk sighed, “I’m clumsy. And too…much.”

“You’re lovely,” Lupin said earnestly.

“You are too, you know,” Tonks said, her (temporarily) green eyes uncharacteristically serious.

“I’m what?”

“Lovely.”

Remus snorted, and looked away.

“You are. You’re not as old as you think you are, Remus.”

“Oh, thank you.”

“I mean it in a good way,” Tonks sighed, rolling onto her back, “You’re smart, and kind. You’ll find a wonderful guy soon. Start over.”

“I don’t want to start over. It’s him, or nothing.”

Tonks sighed.

“What?”

“Nothing.”

“No, go on.”

“I just…I don’t think I’ll ever have that.”

“That’s not all though, is it?”

She turned her back to him, sighing again.

“I’ve said something,” Remus said, agitated, “Please don’t go - I’m sorry.”

“I’m just tired. Honest.”

“You’re a terrible liar.”

She paused.

“I got top marks in Concealment.”

“Even so.”

“Hmm. Then you must’ve seen this coming.”

She took a hesitant step towards him. Realization only dawned as her knee sank into the mattress, and he only had a moment to feel nervous before her lips were on his.

It was soft. And wet. She tasted of gum and pub smoke.

“Well?” she asked awkwardly.

“I’m…sorry,” Remus choked, “But I just kept wishing…”

“I know. That’s why I didn’t say anything.”

“I’m just not ready,” Remus mumbled into the crook of her neck as they spooned, “I may never be.”

“Love doesn’t wait until we’re ready. Stupid me, for example, waiting for Charlie to grow up. At least you’re -”

“- already grown-up.”

“Still gay?”

Remus sighed. “Who knows anymore. I was in love with Sirius for so long, I never had to question it. You are attractive Tonks, I don’t know who gave you the idea that you’re not…”

“Sure. I’m whatever anyone wants.”

“Shame on you, Nymphadora. The physical is immaterial.”

“Remus?”

“Mm?”

“Be my Valentine?”

“I’d be honored.”
