Author Notes: I suppose there’s refusal in this one - this is the only one I was worried didn’t fit the challenge. But Harry refuses to be deterred…And Ben refuses to ask about Hermione, in a way…Hope it fits. Ah, well.
The security guard raised his eyebrow at her suspiciously.
“Rupert,” Harry said sharply, “Alright?”
“Rupert” begrudgingly stamped the papers, and slid them back across the desk to Harry.
“All set, Mr. Potter.”
“Thanks, Rupert. This way,” Harry added, for her benefit.
“I remember,” Hermione shuddered. She remembered all too well how to get to the Department of Mysteries. “I don’t know how you can stand it.”
“I like it, actually. Makes me feel close to him. Hi, Ben.”
A short, grizzled wizard nodded back. His eyes flicked over Hermione curiously, but he didn’t dare ask.
No one spoke to Unspeakables.

But Harry had already pulled the door gently shut.
Hermione turned slowly. The Mirror of Erised waited, cold and patient, at the base of the stone steps.
Bit by bit, her feet carried her closer. She didn’t dare look up - not yet. All she could do was watch her cheap penny-loafers reflecting every step in reverse as she drew closer -
- and then they were someone else’s cheap penny-loafers. Familiar, scuffed hand-me-downs from Bill. A bit too large, they shuffled shyly, peeking out from under the frayed blue-jeans.
Hermione burst out crying.

“I’m sorry.”
“Whatever. Look, you get Harry during the week, I get him on weekends. Have a nice life.”

“Coming,” Hermione said, standing with some difficulty, due to the massive amount of tulle she found herself wrapped in.
“I’ll tell them to start the music,” Harry beamed, “Mione, you look beautiful.”
Everyone cried like babies - even the twins. But Hermione barely remembered the service - all she could see was Ron.
