The Eve of Battle felt too charged and uncertain, so they stayed up late and made promises to one another.
“Alright,” Ron said, lowering quill to the parchment, “If we survive, I promise not to make fun of SPEW anymore.”
“Good one!” Harry said, “Oh, put that I promise to be nice to Snape.”
“If we survive,” Hermione said, smirking wryly, “I promise to never nag you two about your homework again.”
“Wow, that’s a great one!” Ron said, grinning, “Think you can actually manage it?”
They all laughed together, but somewhere in the middle, the laughter turned to tears.
