Challenge: Pressure
House: Hufflepuff
Words: 100
Characters: Hermione. (R/H)

He could be downright…what’s the word?

Vexatious. Yes. Vexatious is a very good word.

Hermione congratulated herself as she knitted yet another hat, while invisible hands held her wool, and other invisible hands spun it from thin air. Finding the perfect word was a small comfort of hers, in uncomfortable situations - putting a name on it meant it was comprehensible.

“Vexatious,” she repeated, the image of Ron’s cheeky grin filling her mind…his ruffled mat of ginger hair after Quidditch practice…shy blue eyes…the pressure of his hand on hers…

His kiss…

Her knitting dropped suddenly to the floor, her concentration broken.

“Gretchen Am Spinnrade” is one of Schubert’s lieder, a piece for Piano and Voice, that I worked on in undergrad…Gretchen, obsessed with Faust, is sitting at her spinning wheel, rhapsodizing and dreaming of her love. The climax of the piece is: “sein Handedruck - und Ach! Sein Kuss!” Which translates to, “His hand-pressure! And Oh, his kiss!” She becomes so entranced by her memory of the man, that she forgets to keep spinning, and she has to disentangle the wheel and start over. This is entirely too much exposition for a 100 word drabble, but I figured someone would want to know what a "Spinnrade" is, so I stuck it at the end so it wouldn't seem so cumbersome. :-)
