I've been doing some research on fraud for work. (It's a long story.) So I've been learning about telemarketing scams, investment/stock scams, health care fraud, and all types of other goodies. Well, sure. My grandparents are the most paranoid people I know. No way would they give away money to some sob story or promising deal over the phone.

And they're fairly active for their age and health, and maintain a lot of community connections. I think it comes from being inside all the time and watching a lot of news. Don't you ever notice that people who watch a lot of TV are more suspicious and less trusting than those of us who use our TV as a convenient place to hold the kitty fishing pole? (like me?) I hardly even lock my doors when I go out -- unless I've spoken with my grandfather lately. Of course, I have a vicious dog.

And I think old people are paranoid because the world has changed so much since they were born in 1918. AND they lived through the Depression. These are people who drive a Jaguar but use a hand-crafted trash can that cleverly recycles supermarket bags as liners so they don't buy garbage bags.

Either way, ain't no way they're giving away their money to some stranger on the phone.
