I'm a regular participant in an online community called Flyertalk. While the primary purpose of the community is to share ideas and tips on how get travel upgrades, maximize airline mile accumulation, etc., it's also a vibrant global community of people who've become close friends while arguing sports, religion, politics, and so on. They're a self-policing and very cordial group and it is by far my favorite online community. I post as "hoyateach."
On one of the forums, a fellow I know named "Dovster" has started posting updates from his home near Haifa, Israel, which as many of you know Hezbollah has been targetting in recent rocket attacks and trying to precipitate a war. Dovster was soon joined by "BEYFlyer" (BEY is the airport code for Beirut) and together they have giving regular, first-person accounts of their experiences as they listen to explosions and watch fires on their respective sides of the border. Their reporting has proven far more accurate than CNN and FOX, and more timely to boot. Dovster is a former US Army paratrooper and Israeli army reservist who has an ear for distinguishing various armaments as they fire but a military background isn't needed to tally explosions or count the rockets screeching overhead.

It's riveting. For those of you who want more and better information on what's going on, and want to see a truly global online community come together in support of people trapped in a war zone, tune in and lend your support.
