A Love Poem

Feb 20, 2011 21:26

For you, Tommy. The perfect love.

_____

There is a resonance
That hangs in your eyes
That settles about
Your shoulders

It’s something that fits
In the easy roll
Of your laughter
Something that makes
Me fit inside of it too

Something I feel
As it falls all
Around me
And settles the way
That sunlight does
When it pours over me
Through the just-right-angle-
Of-my-favorite-window

It’s something about you
About the glow
Of your eyes
And the simple cheer,
Just happiness
When you smile

It’s something about
The fall of your hair
Not brushing your shoulders
Not clipped at your ears
Not short, not long, not imperfect

It’s something about
The way
That you wear your skin
That says ‘it’s mine
And I feel
At home within it’;
The thing that gives you such ease

It’s an assured
Kind of comfort
That I do not have:
Have only the power
To un-jealously
Envy

For I have
Only unawareness
The natural sort of thing
That shatters in the mirror
When I remember I’m not too fond

But you do not wonder
Or seem unaware:
You know only who you
Are and
What you are made of-
You have ease in
Your own sense of meaning

You have a way
Of being yourself;
A way of making me welcome:
You have a way
That is only yours
That looks at me merrily
And tells me
‘You’re home.’
