To post something not-so-depressing, I thought I'd write about what we did that was fun while my sister was here.
Lessee... we all saw Whale Rider and I suggest anyone who hasn't seen it and has access to it had better go see it. It wouldn't be nearly as wonderful on a little TV.
I took her around the neighborhood and showed her things that only silly out-of-state and lattitude folks like she and I would actually think was amazing. Like pear trees! And ... and other things that grow here that don't grow in AK. Oh, and the weird, retro-classic houses they built here when folks were either living in cabins or canvas platform tents at home. ;) That day we also went to Oaks Bottom (the wildlifey marsh place) and saw some kind of large birds - herons?
Anyway. For those of you who dont' live here, the week or two before Kais got here was rainy and just cloudy and cool. But she brought the hot and sunny weather with her so it was in the 70's and 80's while she was here. Which of course felt like the 80's to 90's for her because of the humidity. That was just nice because it's starting to snow at home and she worked a lot this summer and didnt' have time to really enjoy the weather while it lasted. :)
La la la - took her to all the shopping spots for music and whatever else she wanted to look at. She insisted on buying me some things becasue she says, it makes her feel guilty to just buy a ton of stuff for herself. Oh, but we did find "Bust a Move 4" for the PlayStation! Yes! Unfortunately, no one will play with me. I will have to make Eric like the game and perhaps he will play.
Saturday, we went to Oaks Amusement Park.
Sharon (my dad's gf who was also down here) was originally going to go with us but changed all these plans around - but we were going to the park come hell or high water, so we bussed down and walked a few miles to get there. It was worth it, though. I haven't been on a fair ride in almost 5 years - and Trey had NEVER been on a small fair ride! It was just a lot of fun. Went on the Scrambler - which Trey at first REFUSED to go on, but afterward, of course, begged to go on AGAIN. ;) Then Kais and I went on the Screaming Eagle - that big pendular ride. I will have to find a picture of it for some of you folks. On the down swing, it exerts something like 4 G's of force - quite a bit for my poor stomach to handle. I should of thought to do the breathing thing Air Force pilots do to fight that. completely forgot. It was fun and an experience, but the positive G's were a bit too much, so I dont think I'd go on it again.
Also rode the Spider, which made Trey's neck hurt, which was unfortunate because we were actually making it SPIN. I usually can never get my stupid car to spin. The Rock N' Roll was fun, too. Kais and I played miniature golf, which was fun... I accidentally made Kaisa's ball go through the chain link fence and under a car after I tossed it to her... Luckily some guy passed by and we got him to get it back for us. Oh! And Kais and I did Go Karts! I had never done those before. That was fun! :D (ok. now that I sound like a little kid...) Basically, we tried to cram it all in. When we left, it was dark and we went and got Subway before walking a few miles to the closest Bus 19 stop and going home, where we watched the Piano. It was a great day. The end.
~==~
And Sunday we just hung out and watched The Journey of Natty Gann on DVD which is another topic of rant that I will post seperately. But, anyway, in all the days between, we mostly just chilled and relaxed, since that was the main point of her trip down here.
And now Kaisee is gone and I am sad. :(
