SciFi Friday

Stargate SG-1 -- I was really suprised by this episode. I knew Teryl was going to be in it so it wasn't that -- I was suprised by how GOOD it was. THIS is the Stargate *I* remember. This is the quality of story and humour I remember. It felt very old-school in a good way without alienating any of the current storylines. I'm a sucker for AU stories and characters and timelines to begin with and I liked all the little twists within the story, even if we guessed them ahead of time -- like AU!Mitchell posing as our Mitchell to infiltrate our SG1. :D Although I didn't guess that our team would guess that the AU team would do that. lol.

I wish there'd been a bigger reunion thing with Janet and Sam. :\ However, the way Martouf was talking to Sam about their relationship and how he kind of hung when she asked who she WAS with -- lol, combined with the way Janet told Sam that her Sam was on maternity leave? Janet and Sam are SO together in that AU. Even my sister saw that one, lol. Martouf hesitated because gay relationships aren't kosher in the military and he knows it and wasn't sure how Sams from other universes would take it, lol. But of course, Janet could be all chipper when she said it because she knew that people wouldn't guess their relationship by what she was saying. XP

Ahhhh, yes. :D

Oh, and I forgot to add that I was impressed by AT's acting with multiples of herself. Some actors don't do such a good job acting "with themselves" - and a whole ROOMFUL of Carters?! Wow!

Atlantis wasn't bad, either. I was just so stunned by SG1's return to form that I didn't find Atlantis quite as memorable. I really liked the music!

And BSG was interesting. I have never been a huge fan of the president but I do recognize the need for her guidance in the fleet. And when it looked like she was going to die I got really really worried about the future of EVERYONE without her around to hear all sides. Although she certainly doesn't seem like one to give the Cylons the benefit of the doubt when it comes to being nice - not from the way she's treated Cylons in the past.

The storyline was much more subtle but still with a lot of intrigue to keep me hooked. Goodness I love this show. :D

In other news...

We got the rottweiler home! Well, technically, it was mostly due to Kaisa's hard work. She got nowhere calling Animal Control in Houston/Wasilla so she drove to the Palmer Animal Control and talked to the people there. They had a book of missing animals and descriptions and Kais ended up talking to the owner of a rotty that sounded just like the one hanging around the house we're sitting. The owners sounded really nice - they have two young boys who miss the dog so much and a German Shepard dog who has been a mother to the rotty since he was a pup and SHE has been really worried, too. It sounded like the rott, named Rambo, had been missing for over a week. They used to live in the neighborhood but had moved recently so he was probably confused, looking for the old house.

Anyway, the family came back to our neighborhood and handed out flyers again to everyone and called and called for Rambo.
Kais told them that Rambo had been staying in the doghouses where we were at but we hadn't seen him at all that day so we were getting worried. We said that if he came back, we'd get ahold of him so he couldn't run off again and call them ASAP. He never came back that evening so we were really worried but we ended up getting a phone call from the dad. It turned out a little girl in the neighborhood saw him, called the number on the flyer, and the owners came and got him. Happy ending! :D I was SO worried I was nearly in tears - it's been real cold out for a short haired dog like him so he's really lucky to get back home.

We've been getting snow - have a few inches on the ground now, for you folks who visited and didn't get any while you were here. ;)
Cassandra, Morgan, Kais and I are gonna carpool into Eagle River and see "Underworld". I hope they have matinee prices on weekends there; they all but abolished them in Anchorage. :\ On top of that, I hope the movie is good; it doesn't seem to have the same sense of reality, as in " this could be happening in our world today" that the first one had -- to an extent. I went into the first one thinking I'd hate it because I knew Sony had ripped off WhiteWolf and their "Werewolf: the Apocalypse" and "Vampire: the Masquerade" RPG's and had been sued on over 40-some counts of copyright infringement when they made the first one. But I ended up liking it a lot, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
