[Today Renji got to the office extra early. And by extra-early we mean before 8:30. In fact, he got there before Hinamori did today, because leaving a birthday gift on someone's desk just doesn't have the same effect if they're already there. However, this 'gift' is in the form of a memo.
When Hinamori goes to the rec center to help her captain, however, perhaps wondering if the date slipped everyone's mind, since nobody seems to be around, and even Mikagami at the desk, who is usually so good with dates and numbers, didn't do anything more than her usual polite bow and wave when she arrived, she will find it dark. ...Odd. It's early, so despite the large windows, the inside of the building is rather shadowy. Is Renji even in there? Did he fall alseep picking through the filing? ...Wouldn't that be JUST like him? Maybe Hinamori will have to scold him.
Upon entering the building, a flick of the light switch would reveal pretty much the whole division in the middle of the room, some of them donning stupid crinkled party hats Renji found in the closet. The rafters have been draped haphazardly with old, faded crepe paper hung at awkward angles, and a few of those fug old fiberoptic party lamps have been set out on a few tables. ...Well, it could have been worse. He could have decorated the place with The Grateful Dead and Spiderman.
Between two of those fug lamps is a large cake; thanks to Kira's baking endeavors, we don't have to eat pancakes and potentially charred omelets. Renji did get her a big box of chocolate chip cookies from his last trip to the living world, though.
SURPRISE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HINAMORI! ...You didn't REALLY think we forgot, did you?
