HEY. Fucking read this.

So I realized most of the people I consider my TDF peers are now more or less gone from TDF. Can you give me a few sentences as to "what happened" or what, if anything would bring you back? Did you outgrow it? Did you get a life? Get into a fight?

Basically: What would make TDF "better"? New rules, less rules, new mods, more mods, new look? Should ( Read more... )

Mostly I'm in agreement with the people who have already commented. I was always older than most of the forum, so I'm not as bothered by everyone being young as a lot of others seem to be. But part of what was nice about the forum that I really miss now is that I used to KNOW everyone. Even though I didn't do chats and didn't get on MSN, I still felt like you guys were my friends and that I knew everyone who was active on a fairly personal level. And I don't feel that way anymore.

Partially it's that a lot of people who were around when the forum was small have left to be replaced by new people who I just haven't gotten to know. And partially it's because the forum has so many more active members now than it did before the flood (remember back in the day when a new people joined maybe once or twice a week, and practically everyone who was active would greet them?). But a lot of it is also a shift away from talking about forms and our interactions with our daemons and those more in-depth discussions, and towards (as you say) 'post once and you're done' things.

And yes, I agree that Shout (why do we have TWO Shout threads?) and TS and Suicide Support and so on are all problems.

I also have an issue where many of the new threads that pop up about daemons, I'm sort of... "We've already talked about this SO MANY TIMES. Ugh." and not interested in discussing the issue further. Just because I've been around for nearly 6 years, now. But actually, if the people posting in those threads were more of the old guard having real discussions and less all of the 13-17 year old kids who are still WAY EXCITED about their magical brain companions like we all were five years ago, I would probably find them a lot more interesting. So yeah, I mean it's also me being a little jaded. Because new people come in and have the same conversations we had years ago, and that's not their fault if they weren't around then.

I'm really just rambling now. Sorry. The TL;DR of the above is I would like to shift the focus back to daemons (and personality typing?) and discussions. And make it less of a...essentially Twitter feed for all of the (mostly younger) members to post whatever the hell they want at all times.

Oh also? I am totally cool with the multiple groups we have on the forum? I mean we've always had multiple groups around with Leu and Li and so on. But I agree with Edie that while I really don't mind them being open about their multiplicity, it does seem like they often sort of...post on TDF like it's a forum ABOUT multiplicity. Which it's not.

Also, thanks for starting this discussion, Leah. It's something that's been bothering me for a while, but I have a tendency to just unhelpfully frown at it and then wander off. I'm glad someone is actually taking initiative, and if you want help or backing with anything, just let me know.
