The outskirts of Yuma, Arizona:

Just before dawn, the sky is slowly brightening from black into blue. Coyote is nothing more than a dim shape on the side of the road, in her dark leathers. The chrome on her bike shines dully in what light there is.

Looks like she's waiting. Pretty patiently, too. For her.

The soft purr of a motorcycle grows to a roar in the pre-dawn silence as it approaches. It loses speed as it pulls alongside and stops, and Raguel cuts the motor and climbs off.

"You look nice," he says after a moment, in the sudden still.

"So do you," Coyote says, even if Raguel looks no different than usual.

Or maybe because.

She has a look at the bike. "You seem to have been treating it well."

"I've been trying," he says, offhand, then grins. "It did occur to me that even if it wins the race, you still win."

"Now you have seen a true glimpse of my genius," she says, grinning at him. "How about something to make it more interesting, then? A bet?"

Coyote raises her eyebrows. Hmmm, Raguel?
