I have been watching a lot of Veronica Mars recently.
Hot DAMN that's a good show.
I was not keen to watch it at first, the whole teenage P.I. thing had always kind of put me off, and I've never been a fan of Kristen Bell, but
taragel insisted, and when it comes to things that I will like, she is almost never wrong. And she wasn't this time.
First of all, how have I never been a fan of Kristen Bell? She's incredible. Veronica is such a fantastically written character, I really take my hat off to Rob Thomas and the other writers for creating this sharp, witty, honourable, emotional, admirable young woman, but Kristen Bell really brings her to life in the most fantastic way. She's got excellent comic timing and the kind of dramatic chops where she can make her face literally crumple with sadness. I believe every thing she does, and that is impressive because....it's not the most believable of shows. (That isn't a bad thing, I love a good suspension of disbelief, it's just not.)
I am so impressed with all the other characters as well, how well rounded they are, how fantastic the cast chemistry was, how you never really met anyone inconsequential, the freaking continuity is insanely good. It's pretty much just awesome.
I don't have many actual coherent thoughts that I can do in a meta way, but I do have MANY thoughts, so if anyone wants to hang out and talk to me about it for a while, I'm totally down with that.
One thing though. The ending. HOW is that the ending? It was IN THE MIDDLE of all kinds of crap that I am never now going to know the outcome of. WHAT THE CRAP, show? Can someone explain this to me? I'm not in the mood to google it, but would like to know.
Also, I watched the Pilot of Longmire today.
I liked it. I didn't love it. I know it was the pilot and that there's always stuff to work out from pilots, but the pacing felt kind of odd? I was fully prepared for it to be this kind of quiet, wide open spaces, isolated kind of thing, and instead it maybe just felt a bit slow?
I did love Walt though, his face and his smile and his voice are just perfect for that role, and I'm totally digging on his bro-mance with the Red Pony dude. And his relationship with Vic.
Which, by the way, can we take a second to talk about how much I love Katee's hair? I mean, I love other stuff about her too, the sass and the jumping into a fight with the tribal police (literally jumping, her feet were totally not on the ground) and the way she says "uh-oh" when Walt calls Branch on his shit (also by the way, what the hell kind of person names their child Branch? What is that?). But also her hair is just adorable.
One thing I really didn't like at all, was Walt's daughter. She didn't seem to me like she was playing it as though she was his daughter. She was kind of flirty in a weird way that gave me the creeps, and on the neck behind the ear is TOTALLY not somewhere I would EVER kiss my dad. Just FYI. I think me and her are gonna have some issues.
The promo for the second episode looks a lot more action-y though, so we'll see how it goes. Either way, I am happy to have Katee on my screen, and will obviously keep watching. I just don't know yet if I'm going to love it. But then it might be a slow burner, who knows.
Also, I watched the Queen's Jubilee concert this evening and got surprisingly really teary. Prince Charles called her mummy. On stage. It was adorable. It gave me feelings.
What's up with you fine folks?
