Freelance

When Jim Sterling joined Interpol he was given one simple task. Crack down on crime. He was put in charge of a new division of the organisation dedicated to the investigation of crimes that were not the ordinary fare, crimes devised and executed by teams of highly skilled criminals, pooling their collective strengths and resources to better achieve their goals. In order to investigate these criminals Sterling was given leave to hire several “freelance” agents to help him investigate. Who they were was up to him. Where they came from was up to him. And, most importantly, how he convinced them to come on board, was up to him.

Starring:

Katee Sackhoff as Freya Caspari

Freya was born to a life of crime. The only daughter of one of the New York mafia’s most prominent families, she was raised to inherit the family business. With a mother who died in childbirth, and a father who largely ignored her, Freya’s upbringing was undertaken mainly by Raymond De Luca, “Uncle Ray”. Her childhood was an unconventional mixture of formal functions, legal lessons, and ‘urban survival training’, she learnt languages and alarm systems and how to win at cards, but having never been inside a classroom, missed most of the lessons that normal children learn. At eighteen she ran away from home, not wanting to follow in her father’s footsteps, but instead to forge her own reputation, make her own rules. But you don’t run out on family, especially not when you know the things that Freya knows, and she’s been running ever since. Only problem is that she’s just been caught.

Rupert Penry-Jones  as Eric Gulbrandsen

Eric realised he was special at a very young age. He had a gift, his grandfather said, for seeing the whole board, understanding the big picture, that would stand him well in his chosen profession. His chosen profession, he was told, was the army, just like his father before him, and his grandfather, and his grandfather’s father. War, it would seem, was the Gulbrandsen family business. In Afghanistan he distinguished himself, earning a battlefield promotion to captain and the respect of his superior officers for his brave conduct and presence of mind under fire.  After taking a bullet in the spine during a dogfight in Helmand Province, Eric was told he would never walk again and received an honourable discharge from the army. On his return home he spent was recruited by Interpol as a strategist for hire, freelance consultancy on high risk jobs of an unusual nature, in charge of a group of other freelance agents all specially selected for the project. After eight months of physical rehab, he is ready to meet his new team.

James Van Der Beek as Jared Rope

Jared Rope is a genius, and a complete idiot. His parents were happy and very much in love, he was raised in a small town in southern Colorado, went to a good school, made nice friends, got excellent grades and went to college on a full scholarship to study English Literature.  Simultaneously, he was teaching himself the sweet art of the con. By day he was Jared Rope, mumbly, bumbly, slightly awkward English student who stared at his feet while he talked, by night he was Roper, the best short con artist in Boston. He worked the bars and the clubs, practicing his chosen trade and honing his skills. Eventually he ran across a crew of young grifters, runaways and throw-aways and people who just got lost, and they set to working together, bigger cons, bigger scores, bigger payouts. Until the day that Jared’s weakness got the better of him. Jared’s ego is bigger than his brain, and he stayed too long at the party, just wanting to see the look on the mark’s face. What he saw instead was the inside of a jail cell and the rest of his crew behind bars. In exchange for their freedom Jared made a deal with Interpol, to work with them to bring down their trickiest, most wanted criminals. But Jared’s used to being in charge, being the best, and he never anticipated what’s going to happen next.

Sarah Shahi as Elise Tavistock

When she was eight years old, Elise Tavistock, daughter of Harold and Maureen Tavistock, decided that she wanted too be curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. She worked hard in school, studied art history at Harvard, gave donations to the museum’s Friends Association, and when she graduated college volunteered at several of the east coast’s most prestigious museums, finally procuring a paid job and working her way up to become the youngest curator in the history of the Met. She is an incredibly impressive young woman. Except that none of this is true, and Elise Tavistock is not her real name. Like many people, Elise is hiding something, a secret past that is threatening to catch up with her, unless she puts herself in the hands of Interpol’s newest and most ruthless investigator.

With:

Christopher Walken as Raymond De Luca "Uncle Ray"

Ray De Luca is what used to be known in the business as “A Fixer”. If you need it he can get it for you, if it’s lost he can find it, if it doesn’t exist yet, he’ll make you one and convince everyone that it was already real. He’s the best right hand man any crime boss would wish for, and he’s smarter than you think. What he never intended to be was a babysitter, but when Freya’s mother died and it was clear to everyone that her dad had no interest in the child, Ray took pity on her, took it upon himself to raise her in the same manner as he had been raised, to teach her all the things she would eventually need to know. But it would seem that he taught her a little too well, she disappeared when she turned eighteen, and Ray was charged with finding her and bringing her home. He’s caught up with her a few times over the years, but she always manages to just slip through his fingers, and to be honest, Ray’s getting tired of his old life, he’s looking to start afresh, on the right side of the law. Little does he know that his clean slate is about to reunite him with the girl he’s been chasing for eight years.
