Yay writing meme! Stolen from shamelessly
mizzy2k and already it's dropkicked my lazy self into writing my long suffering O&A multi-chapter which I now predict, will be updated by the end of the week :D Well done meme!
So it goes like this:
Each Sunday, post six sentences from a writing project -- published, submitted, in progress, for your cat -- whatever.
And then like this:
One - Once and Again
At some point Grace stands back from the counter and places her hands on her hips, cocking her head to one side and shaking it in disbelief in an impression of her mother that is simultaneously perfect and insanely goofy. She bursts into giggles and collapses against the counter, Jessie's laughing too, head thrown back and chortling around a mouthful of dry cereal she has plucked straight from the packet.
He's chuckling to himself as he watches them laugh, and it's just like they're all teenagers again, hanging around in the kitchen of that house that he had hated but he now kind of misses for all it's clutter and memories and things that made it a proper home.
In that moment he's just overwhelmed with affection; for both of them; his two sisters, for Zoe, who he's never really known, for his parents and for Lily, for Jake and Tiffany, for everyone. He feels like a complete sap, but it doesn't stop him from brushing a hand across Grace's shoulder as she heads out for class, or from picking Jessie up and dumping her on the couch before tickling her half to death.
He thinks he's finally starting to understand what family is supposed to be about.
Two - Life
He’s hers now. And God help her she’s his.
They’re not off to a good start. Even if it wasn’t for the talking to the dog and the fruit and the fact that he never listens to a word she says, but insists on repeating most of them. He’s out of line with the kid’s parents and she’s pissed as hell at him for doing what he did. She’s pissed at the LT for partnering her with him. She’s pissed as all hell at herself for putting herself into a situation where she would have to be partnered with him.
‘Why would the universe be making fun of us all?’
‘Maybe it’s just insecure.’
Most of all she’s pissed at herself for actually finding the bastard kinda funny.
Three - Glee
After that, nothing is ever the same again.
She doesn't think she's ever seen any place more pathetic, more depressing than Lima, Ohio. They pull up to their new “home” on a Thursday morning in February, and it's like this town is so fed up with itself that it can't even muster the energy to rain properly, because there's this drizzle that makes everything damp and grey and unpleasant, but not really wet, so you kind of have to just keep doing whatever you're doing in it and just get used to being damp.
She thinks that getting used to Lima, Ohio must feel an awful lot like getting used to being damp.
She gets out of the car and looks around her while her Dad runs up the path to ring the doorbell. It's a nice-looking house on a nice-looking street, with a nice-looking family suddenly standing on the porch watching her as she takes stock.
And there you have it. Posted super-early so I can go catch a train, but I feel like I've already done something with my day, which is awesome!
Have great Sundays f-list!
