How I got engaged

Feb 16, 2007 16:38

Just wanted to write about how exactly things went down for this crazy little thing we call engagement.

It all started about a month ago when my parents said they wanted to meet w/ me to discuss something. The day they wanted to meet was the day before my dad left for a mission trip to Paupau, New Guinea. That's another exciting story that ya'll should ask about. Anyways, so at the meeting my parents gave me their blessing to ask Theresa to marry me. :)

So in the next week, while my dad was in PNG, I went and got her dad's blessing, her mom's blessing (They're divorced), and picked out a ring as well as got the other things needed for the engagement. And I still had two weeks to wait!

I got the ring on the 5th of Feb. and it was perfect. Exactly what she wanted. The ring is made of white silver and there are three gems in it. 1 purple Amethyst and 2 white diamonds. It represents God (the amethyst) always being in the center of us (the two diamonds) and His and our unending love (the ring).

I had decided to ask for her hand on Tuesday Feb. 13th. Now that may be a confusing day considering the day of love was the day after that. But what ya'll don't know is that Theresa's birthday is on the 13th. So I was asking her the day she turned 22.

The carving waiting for Theresa when she woke up that morning.
Anyways, the morning of the 13th (around 3 AM), I sneak into her apartment (she's living w/ my sister, who has helped me all along) and I go up to her bedroom. In my hands I have a Willow Tree carving of a couple dancing. She absolutly loves these style of carvings and I thought it would be a great gift for her. So I snuck into her room and placed it on her night stand along with a love note. I was asleep but she sent me a text message at 4 AM telling me how much she liked it.

When I woke up that morning I called Liberty Park florist and put 2 orders for flowers. Around 10 AM I went and picked up a single red rose in a vase and took it to her office . She doesn't work until 12:30 so she was not there at the office but she had a ton of flowers and candy's from people in her office celebrating her birthday. So I just added the rose to her growing pile of things and wrote another quick "I love you" note.

She still at this point had no idea I was proposing to her. She knew something big was coming for her birthday because I had told her she had a big surprise coming but she still had no idea what it was.

Around 3:45 I show up at work with a dozen long stem roses and tell her to grab her coat so we can go. After she changed out of her work clothes we got in my white chariot of love (aka Subaru Outback that my parents let me drive) and we were off! I was taking her to her favorite spot, Camp Lutherhaven, although at the time she had no idea where we were going. She didn't figure it out until we took the exit for Coeur D' Alene, ID.

Once we got there we started walking through the slick mud and such down to the waterfront. I took her to her favorite spot there called the outdoor amphitheater. Imagine wood bleacher benches on three sides of a square and then 3 crosses on the side of the lake. Looks very pretty.

Anyways, this whole time we're walking down to the beach I have a box wrapped in green wrapping paper. I don't even mention it until we get down to the water. I handed the box to her and I said, "Open that." I handed her the box and she started fiddling with it and then I told her, "There's a blessing attached to it." In the box was a bible with her new last name inscribed on it. When she looked up I had dropped to one need and I said, "Theresa Johnson, will you marry me?"

She immediately started crying. After a few seconds she nodded her head yes and we were engaged! And the rest, as they say, is history! In our case, is going to be history. Anyways, that's the story of how I got engaged.
