Here is a survey that I pulled from somebodies journal a little while ago. I've been meaning to fill this out for a couple of weeks, and now that the new year is here, I should get it out of the way.
1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before? Lived in one apartment for nine months. Was straight edge for most of the year. Successfully went vegan. Started fundraising (and making decent money). Took my cat to the vet. Seriously visited Vancouver.
2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year? My main resolution was to go straight edge. Seeing as I managed to do that for the most part (along with quitting smoking and all that), I'd say I was mostly successful. I will be making more for next year.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? My favorite chef's baby boy was born in the early days of January.
4. Did anyone close to you die? My Grandpa died in the early days of May.
5. What countries did you visit? Mainland Canada.
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005? Some intimacy. Seriously.
7. What date from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? The Wolf Parade and Metric shows that I went to this year were absolutely phenomenal (and totally sober fun).
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? I know I've mentioned it already, but being sXe as long as I was was something of an acheivement...
9. What was your biggest failure? Let stupid feelings and thoughts throw me way off balance at times.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Nothing out of the ordinary...
11. What was the best thing you bought? some of my cookbooks
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? Umm...
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? I was often appalled that a girl I worked with kept going back to her abusive boyfriend...
14. Where did most of your money go? Probably coffee or eating out. I resolve to be better about my money next year!
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? I was pretty excited to go to Vancouver (every time)
16. What song will always remind you of 2005? Probably Arcade Fire's "Rebellion (Lies)". I know it's technically a 2004 album, but that song was played so many times at the clubs this year that it will forever mark 2005 for me.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? Definitely happier. A lot more stable anyways. I would hope that I"m a little more mature as well...
ii. thinner or fatter? Thinner.
iii. richer or poorer? Richer, although that's just what I'm told. Apparently I'm really not good with managing my money lately...
18. What do you wish you'd done more of? Reading. Art. I wish I had developed some more concrete relationships... but that can be what I do next year I suppose.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of? Wasting time on the internet. Smoking.
20. How will you be spending Christmas? BAM! It's over! Good riddance!
21. At any point in this past year did you do something that you consider to be completely out of your usual character? Yes. I don't care to note the details, however.
22. Did you fall in love in 2005? I can't say I did. Lots of unrequited crushes, but nothing really panned out for me at all this year. :P
23. How many one-night stands? One. All year. All my action. One night. I don't want to say much about it, and normally i wouldn't say anything... but seriously... what a year...
24. What was your favorite TV program? Six Feet Under. In fact, it's not as much "television" as "rented programs".
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year? Umm... yes! I loathe the current chef from Earls. Normally I try not to hate though.
26. What was the best book you read? Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? Fuck, that changes weekly for me. Right now, I'm all about the "She Wants Revenge". Oh, but "Death From Above 1979" and "Eagles of Death Metal" were two cd's that I seemed to play almost all year. "Sarah Slean" and "Wide Awake It's Morning" (Bright Eyes) got me through the spring... I dunno...
28. What did you want and get? A kitchen table. Seriously... I can't stand not having some sort of a kitchen table. I don't really feel like I got much of what I wanted this year though, so I might not be able to answer that very well.
29. What did you want and not get? A lot of things. An ipod. An ibook. Some games. New clothes. I don't have a lot of stuff...
30. What was your favorite film of this year? Hmm... I saw a lot of movies this year. As far as "New Releases / In the Theatres" are concerned, I'd say that I really enjoyed "Howl's Moving Castle". And as far as "rentals"... well the new "Dawn of the Dead" is pretty radical!
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? Turned twenty one. I had lunch with my roommates girlfriend then went to the club in the evening. Spent the afternoon with some "just graduated from highschool" girls who straightened my hair. (yeah... I'm serious too...)
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? More sex. A girlfriend? Less drama..? I wonder if these ideas contradict one another...
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005? Null and void. Although I do like my jacket. And I have some cool t-shirts. I dunno... there is definitely a lot of work that needs to be done. With money and a little work, I'll figure some of this out this year...
34. What kept you sane? My sobriety... if anything. Sounds dumb, but all that drinking/smoking just ends up making me feel less sane. I don't really rely on other people for much though either. If I'm really hurting I might call my parents. However, generally I'll just cry myself to sleep and hope that I forget the sadness by dawn.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? I fancy that Johnny Depp. What a talented actor! He has managed to do so many different roles. He's very dashing too. However, I had a crush on Emily Hanes for awhile too...
36. What political issue stirred you the most? Too many to count this year, especially considering I deal with issues of social importance every day via my work. I would say this is the first year that I really became conscience about a lot of things. Oh, but the whole teachers strike was kind of crazy. It felt like everything was on strike for a few weeks there.
37. Who did you miss? I missed my parents for a little bit... but I got over that fairly quickly. I missed an ex-girlfriend for a little while, but I think I was just lonely...
38. Who was the best new person you met? There was no best. I met a lot of people this year, and I really like most of them. All the people on my "friends list" deserve some sort of special mention though, because they are my favorite people for sure.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005: I think I learned a lot about people in general. I learned how to be at least a little more outgoing (than the quiet shy Jeremy I used to be). It's hard to put it into words... I feel like I have a few more peices of the proverbial puzzle than I did last year though...
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year: ..from the back of the room I saw her there. I said she wants to be alone and I shouldn't dare..
