Still mulling things over but had to share news -- I may need to re-read this Saturday morning to remember why I'm getting up at 6:30 am to run.
So as part of boot camp we've been training for a 5k race that is happening this Saturday in the neighborhood where we train each morning. I had always planned on running the race and even when we realized that its the same weekend as we are suppose to be going to NY, Kris convinced me that I could run it and we could still make it to NY. However, then my friends aren't planning to run it and I took a week off from training so I decided that I really didn't need to run it and decided that if I was disappointed I could run in the Goblin Run the following weekend even though it was going to make going to cheer for my friend who is running the Marine Corp more complicated. However I was okay with this because the thought of driving up Sat. was making me stressed.
But then late last night I got an email from my friend whose running the marathon next weekend, asking me if I was still running because she wanted to come cheer me on -- she has been my total inspiration this fall and we are probably going to run a half-marathon in Nashville in the Spring. While totally not meaning to, her email bummed me out that I wasn't running the race. It didn't help that I finished ahead of the rest of the class on Weds. and even though it was not a good day for running (humid) I felt great. So I started looking for races in NJ which while not as good as running the race in DC would let me run but wouldn't make me stressed about driving up.
After calling my dad to ask about where one of the towns was, I found out that some of the high school students from the school he works at are running a 5K on Saturday morning pretty close to the school. So he called the teacher that was coordinating the group and asked if I could participate so hopefully he'll get me signed up with the school. Otherwise he was sure I could sign up on race day.
I'm such a dork that I'm so excited about this and come Sat. morning -- esp. if we don't get to NJ before midnight -- I might regret this whole idea. But for now I'm excited and actually already looking beyond this weekend to a potential next race in Dec. which is a 10K.
