Sorry, I have sucked royally at updating while I've been gone. So the first weekend we went to Coban, Guatemala and went to this glorious river. Seriously, milky turqoise water. It was so beatiful! And we hiked to this lookout point so we could get pictures from above. We also went to some caves in Lanquin but I got scared so I didn't climb all the way to the top. Don't laugh! It was super slippery and I don't like hieghts. I just hung near the bottom with Carlos. Carlos has been our guide slash best friend for the last couple weeks.
The lower half of my legs is continuously covered in mosquito bites. As soon as some start to disappear, I get more! Suprised I have ended up with malaria yet.
Spanish lessons are going okay but after four hours my brain is soooooo tired! I like to just practice speaking spanish because that gives me a chance to talk about the culture and learn all sorts of neat stuff about Guatemala.
Working in the hospital has been a little annoying. The nurses don't ever seem to want us there but the kids totally love us! The nurses don't really tell us what to do or what we can't do. It's sort of stressful. And I feel terrible for only visiting Marco Antonio once. I was going to head into the men's ward again today but he was busy getting a massage or something. I dunno...so I didn't stop by...again.
We went to the zoo in Guatemala City last week to meet the little girl that Mara sponsors. They had nicely decorated enclosures but they were way smaller than at Woodland Park. I'm sure the animals aren't exactly happy but I got good close ups of them. Haha.
Still have not seen a Quetzal! Someday...unless they go extinct.
We also climbed a volcano, Volcan Pacaya, last week and I got to see the lava right next to me and take some dried lava home. I grabbed some for the Geology teachers that I've had. Extra credit *crosses fingers*
This weekend we went to see some Mayan ruins in Copan, Honduras, yeah, that's another stamp in the passport! We also went to Rio Dulce and took a boat over to Livingston. It's a primarily black town that started when a slave ship was shipwrecked there back in the day. It was good times but Mara and I both got sick after we got back. Bummer! On Monday, I pretty much felt like I was in labor, not that I actually know what that feels like. Seriously though, my intestines were cramping up into the size of a pea or something!
On some computers here I can't use parenthesis or question marks or quotes. So sorry about the punctuation problems. Haha probably only Megan and Carey would even care!
Don't know if we're going to leave Antigua this weekend. There's still some stuff we could do here and we're both a little apprehensive about traveling after our near death experience with diseases on Monday.
Hope all esta bien con ustedes! And to those of you who are freshman, I hope your first little bit of college is going well.
