[Background] Medusa’s one and only child is Crona. At a young age, Crona’s blood was replaced with black blood from the Demon Sword Ragnarok as a stage in Medusa’s studies of black blood. This made Crona the Demon Swordsman - a Meister and a Weapon in one body. Ragnarok, the Demon Sword, literally came to life inside of Crona. It, like Crona, grew over time based on his strength. When young and weak, Ragnarok has a more child-like form (despite it being more demon than human) and when it grew up and became powerful, so did Ragnarok’s form, same as Crona developed.
As a child, Medusa did not treat Crona as a child as much as she did a test subject. When she wasn’t working with Crona, Crona was left in his room in the dark (despite being uncomfortable in the dark). As such, he lacked a proper concept of a family, as well as that of friends. His loyalty to Medusa is built more on necessity and fear than it is actual love. With nowhere to go and no one else to care for him, he became dedicated to doing everything Medusa asked of him. There was fear and resistance at first, but she acted as his teacher, working him through it for her own goals and purposes.
Eventually he succumbed to madness brought on by the black blood as well. It dulled a number of his senses. Being brought up by Medusa, he also greatly lacked a sense of proper “right” and “wrong”. All he realized was that he needed to do what Medusa asked of him. That included feeding Ragnarok the souls of innocent humans as well as bad. Strength was the important thing. But Crona didn’t seem to know the difference at the time. His background didn’t give him a very clear view of right and wrong.
But it’s through one of those stints of human soul stealing that he meets and fights with Maka for the first time. And in the process, he hurts Soul very badly, leaving a huge scar and tainting him with some of that black blood as well.
It’s quite some time later before he runs into Maka again. And they fight again, Maka feeling it’s personal after what happened to Soul last time. Maka sinks herself into the madness in order to understand Crona a little better and we see the flashbacks of Crona’s past, as well as the interaction of their souls. Maka erases the line that separates Crona from the rest of the world and reaches out to him.
Crona’s body, mind, and the black blood all react badly to this, however, and try to reject the change, injuring Maka. However, Maka hugs him and asks to be his friend. Crona snaps out of it and realizes something then.
Medusa doesn’t show up for some time and Crona is taken in by the DWMA. But rather than punishment, he begins a trial run as a student. With the help of Maka and the other Meisters and Weapons, Crona begins to see how friendship works.
[Personality] When Crona was still very young, Crona’s blood was replaced with black blood from Ragnarok. Crona’s mother, Medusa intended to use Crona for a number of experiments on black blood. The black blood, and the presence of Ragnarok induced quite a bit of madness in Crona. It seems that the stronger the black blood and thus Ragnarok, the stronger the madness gets. And by madness, I do mean nothing short of insanity. In the maddened state, Crona becomes rather spacey and says a number of odd things, as if in a strange trance. There are distinct moments of clarity; most which come when Ragnarok breaks through his skin and taunts her. This may very well be a direct result of the fact that Ragnarok and a large portion of the black blood technically leave her body during those times.
The most noticeable thing about Crona is his inability to deal with many things. From a young age, no one took the time to deal with Crona, and as a result, Crona is very socially inept. Things like talking to people or physical contact are strange to him. The only real person Crona had to associate with was Medusa, and their relationship and mother and child is a twisted thing as well. Affection and friendship are still new to Crona. They are things Crona considers new and unusual but not necessarily bad. Before Maka hugged Crona, he noted that he didn’t know physical contact felt so nice. It’s not that he did not want these things, or, if he did not, it was due to a mistaken perception due to a lack of personal experience.
He has had some time to get used to it, however. All the same, people who are loud and excitable and/or rather affectionate will still shake him a little bit. He is rather shy and awkward, but not without a sense of curiosity.
When depressed, however, Crona is known for sinking to the lowest of lows, and is shown having the ability to bring others down to that low depth via poetry. When upset, Maka taught him to express himself with poetry, and after reading it, everyone else seemed to fall into the same depressive state.
Crona is very hard on himself. This may very well be Medusa’s influence, but he seems to have a great deal of inner turmoil. When faced with daunting tasks its easy for him to say it’s impossible, rather than convince himself he can do it.
He questions people when they’re nice to him at times, and still forgets from time to time exactly what all comes with friendship.
At the same time, when friendships are formed for Crona, he becomes very protective of those people. That means fighting for them if they’re ever in danger or standing up for them whenever he can. On the other hand, he also feels there isn’t much that he can do for people outside of fighting, but rises up defensively when those situations when he can fight for them arise. If there was anything else they needed, he would most definitely try, despite any lack of knowledge or skill, although failure to do whatever task he took on successfully would only send him further into despair, and result in many apologies. Crona has a tendency of making things that aren’t his fault… his fault, and automatically resigning himself to apologizing for it, whether it’s realistically his fault or not.
Despite his twisted relationship with his mother, Medusa, there is still loyalty there, though it seems much more tied to his fear of the woman, rather than love for a mother. She is the cause of many of the insecurities that Crona has about himself and other people, being the longest standing relationship he has had with any one person.
[Specialties/Abilities] Crona is special, in that Crona contains both Weapon and Meister within one body. When Crona was still very young, Medusa replaced Crona’s blood with black blood from the melted down Demon sword Ragnarok. As a result, Ragnarok now exists within Crona in one body. Ragnarok can break through Crona’s skin and show a black, physical form that’s more demon than human, and it can also form a long, thin black sword.
Ragnarok’s power has been greatly reduced at this point, which shows. Ragnarok has regressed to a smaller, younger looking form, and the blade form became shorter and thinner.
The black blood in Crona can harden in order to defend against attacks. And when Crona is attacked, the black blood can flow from his body in the form of projectile weapons such as needles or spikes.
Crona’s sword fighting skills aren’t to be underestimated. However, the stances that he uses can be considered quite unusual. Crona has a habit of contorting and swinging in odd ways human bodies usually would not when fighting and is really flexible. He is also capable of jabbing a large sword like Ragnarok pretty fast, demonstrating a strength that is greater than one would expect from a body type like Crona’s.
Ragnarok and Crona are also capable of performing what is called a Scream Resonance, which allows for various sound wave based attacks. It’s different from the Soul Resonances that most partners can perform but similar in strength, if not a little stronger than some, depending on how it is used and who the opponent is.
[Affection] ANY, but don't expect him to know how to deal with ANY OF IT.
[Fighting] Yeah, it can happen, just plot it out with me first.
[Other Permissions] Yeah sure go for it, I'm pretty open to all these things.
