DC Cherry Blossoms

Apr 03, 2010 22:07

Friday Cindy and I went up to DC to take photos around the cherry blossoms with the dolls. It was a long and fairly complicated trip, but it was so incredibly worth it. The weather was fantastic, and even though there were a lot of people, we didn't have much trouble getting some photos.

I didn't take as many photos as I thought I did, but there's still a lot. I experimented with angles a whole lot, especially so since this was Lugh's first real photoshoot. And the boys were in their brand new yukata custom-made by Amanda (Manderskoinu on DoA). David kept insisting that flashing was a good thing. :/

David always comes off as shy when he's around Lugh. It's a little sad.

Our first location was just at the edge of the Tidal Basin, and we had a nice breeze going that kept raining petals down on us. I still had some in my bag when I got back to Richmond.

A small study in angles and frame.

Cindy brought Gelert, her Soom Chrom, and Aidara, a Fairyland minifee Carl. Gelert was not cooperating with poses, sadly. This was right before she stuck her tongue out at him, too.

Next, we moved away from some of the younger trees and into the section of the original gifts from Japan. These trees had a lot more character in regards to twisted trunks and bulges and just plain being larger. The reason it's all Lugh is because David got packed back into the carrier and I carried Lugh. Easier on my shoulder, and better for photos.

Then we ended up in one of the memorials. The memorial was beautiful with magnolias and cherry blossom trees framing it, water features, and some gorgeous cast iron statues. We sat down in front of one of the waterfalls and I switched David for Lugh in the carrier.

Then, we walked across the street to a smaller memorial and garden. The magnolia trees there were huge and breathtaking. These next few are my favorite pictures of David from the trip by far.

We walked over to the Jefferson monument from there, and packed everyone up to walk the long walk to dinner.

I would really appreciate comments on angles of images, particularly if there was one that was good or bad, and your reasoning. I'm still learning a lot about composition and even still posing with my dolls, so critique is welcome. ^.^

There was also a late night and then again in the morning photoshoot after the blossoms when I got home with Lugh and David, but I'll save that one for another day. That was an experiment with light AND angle, and a trial and error with posing and artistic shots. And... there's a lot more of that one. XD
