I am converting all of the songs on my computer from MPEG files to AAC files because the latter take up 87% less space on a hardrive, according to Rory, and the glut of stuff on my hard drive is slowing my computer way down. This is all very boring, but because of this restructuring I have had to delete all of my iTunes playlists. It sounds so insignificant and it is but the playlist is the new mix tape. It is healthy that I delete these reminders of the past. Some of them had been there taking up space and reminding me of the past for two years. I will try in the future not to sentimentalize things that contain no inherent meaning but which I insist on not only assigning meaning to but maintaining this sense of meaning. The internal eulogies for crumpled pieces of paper and tattered tshirts and soft rock songs detract from the present. But I feel as if much is happening. It is strange how things are happening in one's mind all the time-- churning and crystallizing-- but you are not aware of them until one day you perceive that a huge change is underway.
