Musical Overload

I've been spending a bit too much money lately. I blame Warp Records; a lot of their CDs are selling for around £7 in HMV and Fopp. In the past month, I've bought 3 albums by (Chris) Clark, all of which are superb, a pretty sweet mix of Warp tracks by PC and Strictly Kev, and yesterday Warp Works & Twentieth Century Masters, a two-disc collection of orchestral recordings of tracks a number of avante-garde composers I've never heard of (Although one of them, György Ligeti, did the music for 2001: A Space Odyssey), and a couple by Aphex Twin and Squarepusher. Yeah, I'm a ponce. It's really interesting, though, and there are a couple of beautiful piano pieces by Aphex Twin. Anyway, because I've been binging on electronic music lately, I think my next few purchases should be metal, or hip-hop. God knows it's about time I got something by Aesop Rock, and I'd like to check out 65daysofstatic and Boris out, too.

Walking back from town today (Didn't do much, just had some pasta and read Murakami's 'Dance Dance Dance'), I managed to scrape some thoughts together to form inspiration for a song. Since listening to the poncey orchestral album, I wanted to work on a piece to challenge myself compositionally. The ideas I had while walking were more about structure, but when I got home I recorded a few noises (Which probably aren't that useful), and wrote a rather intricate melody for a xylophone. I want to try and maintain my momentum and finish this song, and then maybe I can return to the tracks I was working on when my old PC broke (I haven't been able to pick them up since).
