[Admittedly, as time passed, Heather's resolve to find a way home had faded more and more. There was almost literally nothing for her there anymore-- to go back would be sort of like leaving Oz and going back to Kansas, except instead of returning home to a loving family, it would be arriving in an empty house because everybody else had died in the tornado.]
Some people go home, but it's not on purpose and nobody knows how or why.
