Well the Starbase Houston Away Team is back from Babelcon 3 www.babelcon.org in Baton Rouge, LA. A good time was had by all, and I think we all came away pretty impressed by the con. The Babelcon crew run a pretty smooth operation, with a very broad programming selection, including media guests,(Suzie Plakson, Richard Hatch, JG Hertzler & Bob May) SF & fantasy topics, hard science, paranormal, anime, 2 bands, a dance, a charity auction,(that raised about 1300 bucks) and even an indoor Renaissance fair. And their efforts have been rewarded by seeing their con quadruple in size from a one-day with a 150 or so fans at a civic center, to a weekend with (I think) around 600 folks at a nice hotel in just 3 years. I did miss having an art show, but the biggest problem I had was picking which panels/shows to attend, too many choices!! I'm looking forward to seeing what Babelcon 4 will be like.
I just wanted to mention one of my highlights, which was meeting the lovely and talented Suzie Plakson, who portrayed Worf's girlfriend K'Ehleyr, as well as a few other aliens on various Star Trek series. She is a class act all the way. Suzie was at the con all weekend, and took time to greet and chat with any fans that approached her, not only at her panels and autograph table, but at also at a 'VIP meet and greet' cocktail party the con had on Friday night, which is where I got to meet her. The best part of that meeting was that I heard her before I saw her, and what I heard was "Hey, A man in a kilt!"
