From the AA - Kids n' Maille Construction

Sep 23, 2008 13:54

I just read this on the Armor Archive and thought I would x-post it:

My school encourages the faculty to share their hobbies with the students ( Middle School ) on Friday afternoons during club period. This quarter I decided to offer maille making classes. The kids are learning how to make butted maille using pre-cut links to minimize the frustration factor.

Anyways, last week we were talking about projects. I'm asking them to keep it simple until they get a better feel for what they are doing. Most of them were happy with making key fobs, necklaces and "+3 bracers or defense" and the like to learn with. Except for John. John had a great idea about what it was he wanted to make as his first project. When I asked him what he wanted to make, he looked me straight in the eye and told me he didn't want to make any of non-armour stuff, he want to make something "real".

So I asked him what he had in mind.

His reply was, "I want to make a queef."

I was hoping I misheard him so without hitting the floor laughing , I asked him again what it was that he wanted to make.

He said," A queef, you know , I want a queef to go on my head."

If I had been drinking milk at the time it would have shot out of my nose.

I looked at him and said, "Oh , a coif. I got ya. It's pronounced coif not queef."

He then asked me what's the difference.

I told him he'd find out later in life.
