House stared out across the city and wondered. He thought about his patients and why he went to so much trouble for them. He didn’t hear the click clack of her heels.
“Wow fancy seeing you up here!”
House turned and disguised his surprise well.
“I think it more surprising to see you up here. What will the children think?”
“Whatever they like”
House smirked and turned back to the skyline. Cuddy leaned on the wall next to him. They stood and mulled over the day’s events, Cuddy had had a record of thirteen complaints about House not to mention another ten about other doctors. House had a patient who was rapidly deteriorating. They just need the silence. They could talk that night for now they just needed each other’s silence and company.
Wilson stood at the door and watched them for a while before joining them on the other side of House. The other two glanced at him, welcoming him before they returned to the skyline.
The three stared out across the city, not saying anything, just watch the sun fall and losing themselves in their thoughts. They all just wanted the comfort of knowing they’re not alone.
They didn’t realise they were being watched by the ducklings who wondered at the older doctors before them. As a silent agreement they turned heel and left. They weren’t part of that friendship.
As darkness descended Wilson clapped House on the shoulder and smiled at Cuddy before he walked away. Cuddy soon after did the same except she kissed House’s cheek before she left.
He looked after her before turning back to his skyline smiling slightly. She knew how to deal with him as did Wilson. They knew what he needed, what he wanted and how far he was willing to go.
Gregory House MD was alone again but somewhere below him two people understood and that was enough.
Sometimes all you need is a silence that conveys a thousand inexpressible words and an action that conveys ten thousand emotions.
