That hot pot thingy sounds great! I think that might be what we call... drat, I've forgotten what we call them! Is it one of those things you switch on early in the day, and it works at very low power and cooks things while you're out? If so, I've been thinking about trying one of those: they sound great! I must go and look it up online, though, because what you say about pasta/making water for tea suggests it's something different. Hmmm...

Yeah! The housing market here is terrible atm as well :( Still, needs must! This was a large house for 3 people. Now that I'm here alone, I feel almost as though I'm wandering round a huge deserted building *g*)

I'm planning to move to a completely new place, and it's v. exciting! Basically, and in a nutshell, I bought this house with my mother (not such a good idea, but why I did that is a very long story indeed) about 8 years ago. She died in April, and my sister, who's spent much of the last 8 years living here (also not such a great thing), has just moved out. When my mother died I realised that it was an opportunity to make some much-desired changes in my life, and that included changing my job. So, I've now ditched the job, and I plan to move to Yorkshire (about 60-90 minutes away from here) during the course of the year. It will all be a huge change, but, although I'm a little intimidated at times by the enormity of it all, it's actually very exciting, and a great opportunity :)

Yes, I'm a lawyer *g* I don't mention it very often because many peeps seem to dislike us so much. We have a divided legal profession over here: solicitors and barristers. I'm a barrister.

You're thinking of maybe doing law? Well, it really is a great career. The fact that I think I made the wrong choice doesn't, of course, make it the wrong choice for anybody else. It's exciting, challenging and exhausting, but it can be (and has been, for me) hugely rewarding. I don't regret my time at the Bar, in fact, but I don't want to do it for the rest of my life.

I know we have a different system from yours, but if you have any Qs of any sort about life as a lawyer then pls to be sending me an email :) I'll v. happily tell you all about it. The very best thing about it, in fact, was my colleagues, and they're the main thing I miss about it. They were an interesting, friendly, bright, honest and original bunch of people, not at all like the people I see portrayed in the media all the time *g*

I really would love to be able to do some work for CIWF. Perhaps I'll email them tomorrow ♥

Different thingie, I think. Our hot pot you fill with water, plug it in and turn it on! And voila - boiling water in minutes. But that other thingie sounds cool as well!

Wow! That does sound incredibly exciting!! And scary! And exciting! I really, really hope it works out for you!

I'm thinking of getting a law degree, but I don't think I want to practice, a la court cases and such. Mostly I want to go into non-profit work, and I figure having a law degree might help, esp. given my focus.

I might take you up on that! I have no idea how ANY system works, US or otherwise, so. I may poke you about that in the future. ;)

Media doesn't do a good job of portraying much of anything, I find. There are some kick-ass TV lawyers, though! James Spader, for instance! Hee. (Also, Lisa's character on The West Wing went to law school. INCENTIVE, WHAT? ^^)

Ah... I'll have a look for one of those gadgets, then. Definitely not seen one before.

A law degree is often a good thing to wave at people when looking for non-legal employment/occupations, so I'm sure your plan is a good idea :) I think this throws up one of the differences between post-school education over here and over in the US, because here we can do a law degree straight from school (i.e. aged 18) whereas in the US I suspect it's a post-graduate thing, as medicine is over there. Right/wrong?

Please do drop a line at any stage about law, or anything else :)

Ooh, James Spader! *pants* He was GREAT in Boston Legal! I've just watched the whole thing from start to finish :)

*is totally made of fail*

Lisa was in The West Wing? I only saw S1, and that was a long time ago, and before I'd seen her in House, so if she was in it it went completely over my head! However :) I have the S1 DVD somewhere, and if you tell me she's in it I'll take a look. I enjoyed it very much :)
