Have you got iTunes? If so, pls to be whizzing over there and finding a nice recording for me. (You can check them out by double-clicking: they'll play short excerpt.) I will do my best :)
I'm hoping I'll be okay on the data front because I have a whole array of external USB hard-drives that I've been using for backup, so I'm hoping I can plug them into the new baby and have access to my data that way. Plus, I do backups nightly so it should really be there too. Maybe next week we can teh play with your computer and, if you like, set you up a backup system (if you've not already got one) hehehe!
V. little techno prowess here, btw. By way of example... thought I'd better get the new eppy of Grey's Anatomy before swapping PCs in case internet link doesn't work immediately. Tried to get it in the usual way but IT WOULDN'T DOWNLOAD!!! Cried a bit, tried a re-boot: didn't help. Was in process of posting desperate request for help to place I get them (knowing it would be sneered at by the scary techno-geeks over there) when suddenly it occurred to me I'd set the d/load scheduler not to work at this time of the day (so's not to get my connection zapped by my ISP). Switched scheduler off: G's A zipped down to the computer. Duh.... *g*
VISTA IS A PILE OF UTTER SHIT. A COMPLETE AND UTTER NIGHTMARE. Really! I reckon you're right when you say that Chris hasn't noticed because she doesn't really use PC. Try anything other than the simplest operation and Vista waves two fingers in face and refuses to comply. For instance, fucking thing actually refused to allow me to move MY OWN HOUSEFIC THAT I'D JUST WRITTEN from the folder I'd put it in to another one just the other week. WTF??? Told me I didn't have the right to do it.
Over here in the US, Microsoft has been running this big ad campaign in which they had random people test out a "new" operating system called "Mojave" and then -- once those poor suckers were totally thrilled with it -- informed them IT WAS ACTUALLY VISTA! None of those horrible things they'd heard about Vista were true! Really, everyone, it's safe to go back in the water!
But I have yet to hear from an actual happy Vista user, so (even if I weren't a very happy Mac owner) I think I'd rather believe real people, not Mr. Softy.
Really, though, I have found it dreadful. I think that peeps who don't ever want to do any file management might not have a problem with it, but I've hated it for 8 months and FINALLY I AM FREE OF IT, AHAAHAHAHAHAH! :)
