I also think that many companies are using the 'recession ' to downsize and rationalise their workforces and businesses regardless of whether they need to or not. Precautionary measures? I don't know but it's usually the workforce and not the managers!
I'm sure you're right :( It's really pretty terrifying. I read that Wedgwood went under earlier this week, and I could hardly believe it. I thought I'd heard it all when Woolies went down the tubes :(
Now the oil in the Ukraine (although that seems tit for tat).
I found that pretty terrifying too. Where lives are concerned, I really think it shouldn't be possible to simply terminate essential services in the middle of an argument about an unpaid bill. Even power companies over here aren't allowed to do that to individual householders without some sort of independent intervention, much as I'm sure they'd love to be able to.
Clearly, though, individual governments and nations differ greatly in the approaches they adopt towards acknowledging the need, and moral responsibility, to protect individuals. The Russia v Ukraine and LJ v employees incidents are just two examples of what seems to me to be the same underlying problem.
I hope Lj recovers from this body blow! Should we all exchange e-mail addies (addy's?) in case of its demise?
I think we all should. Some peeps are starting accounts over at insanejournal.com, just in case (hint, hint... run over there now deefellowconcernedcitizenoflj and start one, hint, hint...)
Seriously: if I woke up one morning and found that LJ was just gone, with all the peeps I now think of as friends, not to mention the great House-related resources, I'd be absolutely devastated :(
I'm just about to join Insane.....have you? but more importantly are you keeping your same user name of going for a different one?
I am retired I cannot possibly make such a momentous decision!! In fact I'm going to come out until you tell me what to do, or I decide on a name all on my ownsome!!
