I'm procrastinating Berkeley-reading, so I read the whole thing. And I am not bored. Rather intrigued. How does one dehydrate food??? (If it's not too hard to explain)

Plus: For reading in the tent I'm taking Philip Pullman's Northern Lights (which I think might be titled The Golden Compass over in the States). It's the first in his His Dark Materials trilogy
GOOD for you. Those books are fantastic. I read them in german first, but bought them all in english (and read them) during my england-year. They're sooo worth it!

About the Myers-Briggs. I did the test three times: 1. I was INFP 2. INTJ 3. INTJ again. weird...

BTW: YAY to your upcoming holidays.

Thanks a lot for the explanation. I think I'll go and see if I can get one of those dehydrators. I like to cook and usually it's rather big portions and then I have to eat the same stuff for 3 days, because I don't have a freezer, only a tiny fridge. But when I can dehydrate the stuff then I could store it and eat it later. :-) YAY

it's not at all uncommon now for my pals to pull out bags of home-made virtually gourmet stuff in the middle of nowhere and feast That sounds yummi and like lots of fun.

You finished your essay stuff now?
not quite. I'm only missing a few conclusions to some quotes and I think I'll get it done over the weekend (I have to work all day the next three days) Luckily my lecturer has given me till 20th July to get it done. :-)
Otherwise use every free minute to study for my philosophy exam on the 18th. I'm sure that it will go well. :-)

*wishes you luck for the remaining studying*

It'll all be over and worthwhile soon :)

I'm sure you'd get on really well with a dehydrator! The one I've got is here, and that's where I bought it. (The peeps who run that site are good friends of mine--in fact, I think I took some of the walking piccies--and the service is The Best.) I'm sure you can find them in Germany too, though. They're absolutely perfect for what you're describing, and the food lasts ages. I've eaten food dehydrated by Bob and Rose (they run that site) that was a year old, I think, and it was perfect. Don't hesitate to drop me a line in email if you want to chat further about it :)

I've seen dehydrators for sale, but the packaging just talks about using them to make your own dried fruit and beef jerkey. Could you put in something like, I don't know, chili? Or stew? Mac and cheese?

chili? Or stew? Mac and cheese?Oh, absolutely! The only potential hazard is that something very liquid will just run through the little holes in the trays onto the machine itself underneath, but it's possible to get round that by using baking parchment, or possibly even by getting some specially adapted trays ( ... )
