I sit in a colorful cafeteria, on an uncomfortable, circular, plastic chair, in equally uncomfortable company. All around, a laughing, energetic, and happy mess of people moves in and out of focus, as my eyes try to take in this surreal sight. The air of excitement clashes bitterly with my indifference. After walking through the doors ten minutes ( Read more... )

e·lit·ism or é·lit·ism
n.

1. The belief that certain persons or members of certain classes or groups deserve favored treatment by virtue of their perceived superiority, as in intellect, social status, or financial resources.
2.
1. The sense of entitlement enjoyed by such a group or class.
2. Control, rule, or domination by such a group or class.

Or,

elitist
n : someone who believes in rule by an elite group

I would have to say no, 'we' are not a bit elitist in this post. I was simply sharing my experience and views, or, in other words, writing in my journal. Sorry it bothered you.

No, actually, you are being elitist. I don't care, since I'm an elitist about shit, too, but dammit, read:

" ..I am not like any of these people. And to be perfectly honest, I'm also too smart. I can be around stupid people for a fair amount of time, but sharing a class with them is not something that I can handle. You are automatically brought down to the level of the stupidest person in the class, and that's too stupid for me..."

And i'm not provoking him, it's nothing against him as a person.

If you'd scroll up and check the definitions, you'll find yourself wrong. I do not believe that I deserve any better treatment simply because I feel I'm too smart for the class I was taking. And I was too smart, I looked through the book we were doing and I've already done it. There is absolutely nothing elitist about what I said.

Uh, believing you deserve favored treatment because you're smarter -- as in not working with the "stupider kids" who are too slow, and you can't "be around stupid people for too long" sounds like you think you deserve favored treatment because of perceived superiority, as in intellect -- so, yeah, I'd have to save it's 100% elitist bullshit, and that it wouldn't be a problem if you could just admit that.

Well, yes. I have the oppertunity to choose whether or not I stay and work with them. It is not affecting anyone else if I stay in school or leave school. I give myself favored treatment, yes, but that's the extent of it. I am not asking the stupider kids to change the way they learn, I just chose to leave because I had that option. I was not infringing on anyone else's right to their education or expecting any sort of favored treatment.
