The Deck

The Suits have been around since the middle ages, each of the Courts growing and battling between each other. Here in the 21st century, these are the four that hold power: Spades, Hearts, Clubs, and Diamonds. Each Suit has its own strengths and weaknesses, and all are constantly vying for their standing in the Deck.

History
Originally a part of the Tarot, the Minor Arcana splintered off due to differences of opinion. This led to a rather major civil war. The then Minor Arcana, the they fled from Tarot lands and set up their own society, split between the Suits. Those morphed over time to become what is now recognized as the Deck.

Building a new society from refugees was difficult, and there were a great many mishaps and miscommunications that led to strife between the newly established Suits. The newly developing society brought itself to the brink of another war before mediators stepped in to cool tempers and level heads.

Not everything about the Deck is clear, even to the majority of it’s inhabitants. For example, Jokers. Jokers are the mystery of the deck. Who they are, what they are, and what they can do is unknown. They come in all different flavors, shapes, sizes, and talents. There's plenty of tales and stories but none that are definite. They just... Are. A constant reminder to the deck that not everything is quite as it seems.

The mystery of the Jokers leaves some Cards wondering about the Deck, and the many idiosyncrasies most seem to take for granted. Even some of the aspects from Tarot living carried over to the Deck unbeknownst to the people.
