[OTA] The Not-Quite-Midnight Oil
Early on, after he became a Ten, Jordan had contacted a few Hearts who lived Outside but still had ties to the Deck - or still technically lived there, but spent more time Outside than In. They weren't operatives, per se, not like the ones the Spades had or even the ones he suspected Elisha Kagan had. But they notified him of things that might be important.
As often as not, the information was pretty much useless. It didn't keep Jordan from keeping up with it, and sending correspondence back in return; you never knew, after all, when something useful would come to light.
In this instance, though, there was no reason for him to stay this late in his office reading a report on his laptop from a Heart going to school in Spain. And while it was nowhere near the middle of the night, Jordan had long since missed regular dinner service in the kitchens. He wasn't very hungry, though, and there wasn't much reason to go out and seek company tonight. He could get more work done, instead.
