Weather Report:

Oct 02, 2012 21:04

Over the course of the last two days, the temperature had been a constant. Not warm, per se; some members of the deck had started to don light jackets and other articles of clothing that was the tell tale signs of the approaching winter. But as the evening sun set, the cold began to seep into the air at a rapid rate and the wind began to pick up slowly.

Shop keepers made mild comments on this as they closed up for the night, one noting that it seemed early for such a cold spell. The weather of the deck had, for as many years as anyone could remember, been a mix of perfectly calm transitions between seasons. It rained enough to keep crops growing and the grass green, after all, but not so much that dragged upon the spirits. Most often people commented that the weather was, well...perfect. Farmers could almost set their watches by the seasonal changes, and that was just the way everyone liked it.

So it was odd, to some, that the weather turned as cold as the dead of winter- but they thought little of it beyond that. And as the lights of homes dimmed and many drifted into deep slumbers, something strange began to happen. The first to notice were those who kept late hours; the pub goers and the bartenders to name some. A few parents shook their children awake to come stare at the windows in awe and pointed as large, wet flakes drifted peacefully from the sky.

The warmth of the ground kept much of the first snow from sticking, causing it to melt on the pavement as those flirting with the wee hours of the morning walked about. Puddles formed in the old, cobble stone road ways and along side walks. Most of the snow simple clung to the old signs like a white blanket, melting slowly and dripping down on passers-by. But as the clock hedged toward one, the snow began to fall in a heavier manner, and the light dusting about roof tops and signs began to become large clumps of snow. By two that morning, walking aside seemed a poor side, as all that anyone could see while peering out their windows was a sheet of blue-white snow falling, kicked up and about by the wind. The power in some parts of town began to flicker, and the puddles along the old, cobblestone roads became ice as the snow fell faster than it could melt.

By the time the early risers climbed out of bed, the power across most of the deck had gown out, lines weighed down by the snow fall, and the castles were full of a heavy, cold air that made even the youngest of bones feel ancient with ache. And still yet, the snow fell. It waned from time to time, but the wind kept the snow floating about in the air as more and more snow fell upon the ground. Some people found the drifts piled so high against their doors that opening them only meant a foot or more of snow would come crashing down upon them.

For those brave enough to venture out into the weather, the smell of chimney smoke filled the air, mixed with the harsh, wet scent of new snow. The most common conversation of the lips of the eldest members was mostly turned to the strange weather, and how unexpected it was in a place...where weather was almost like clock work.

[ooc: posting this early as I will not be online late tonight. Expect the snow to fall through most of tomorrow, ending around 4:30pm. Feel free to post anything from this point on as though the snow has fallen. By 6am game time, the power will have been lost deck wide and will slowly be turned by on. The Medical facilities and necessary facilities will have power restored first, and then the castles. Please look at the calendar in the ooc community to be sure you do not jump the gun on that. Thanks!]
