"Mr. Heart!" This is important. Very important indeed! She needs to skip up next to him, turn so she's walking backwards in front of him, glance between him and the dog and him again. "Mr. Tartsy! You have a pet!"

Jordan pauses and raises an eyebrow, but just smiles at Piper. "She's not mine," he says. "But for Meghana. Quiet, though, it's a surprise."

"Piper will hush ever so much. Terribly fluffy puppy." She raises a finger to her lips, falling into step beside Jordan. "Who is he? Is he named?"

"She," Jordan says again. "She doesn't have a name yet, since it's Meghana's puppy. But I'm sure she will very soon."

"She? Oh, how exciting!" But wait. "Why the puppy? Is Ms. Sharpy's birthday tiptoeing around the corner?"

He actually doesn't have any idea when Meghana's birthday is, something he should probably do something about. "It's an apology gift," he explains. "My grandmother...asked probing questions about when she was going to marry me." Cue the deer in the headlights look.

Not terribly important, Piper doesn't think. But then again, Piper's always a little off. "Marrying is bad? But Stars-and-Spiders were so pretty!"

"It's not bad," he explains. "But it has to be something you're ready to think about, and Meghana got interrogated when she wasn't ready to think about it."
